The old name of Karachi(کراچی) was kalanchi(کلانچی). Karachi is the largest city of Pakistan also known as the City of lights accommodating more than 21 million people. The present city of Karachi was reputedly founded as “Kolachi” by Baloch tribes from Makran, Balochistan, who established a small fishing community in the area. Descendants of the original community still live in the area on the small island of Abdullah Goth, which is located near the Karachi Port.
