The national tree of Pakistan is the deodar tree, also known as the Himalayan cedar. The deodar’s scientific name is Cedrus deodara.
Why is it the national tree?
- The deodar is a tall tree that can grow to be 40–50 meters tall, with trunks up to 3 meters in diameter.
- The wood of the deodar is light, close-grained, and rot-resistant.
- The deodar’s name comes from Sanskrit and means “wood of the god”.
