Iran, unlike Afghanistan, welcomed the birth of Pakistan and readily recognized it on August 22, 1947. The feelings of religious fraternity weresincerely expressed from both sides. The Shah of Iran was the first foreign ruler who visited Pakistan in 1950. Quaid-e-Azam and the elite political leadership considered relations with Iran important and vowed to keep them friendly. Persian language was taught in schools and colleges. Iranian culture has strong effects over Pakistani culture and was considered more sophisticated and refined. Liaqat Ali Khan as Prime Minister
of Pakistan also signed a Treaty of Friendship with Iran.
