An ecotype is a population within a species which are subtly different from the rest of the members but still can interbreed. It is a sub-group of species. But it is not a category of classification.
Mainly, there are 7 obligate categories – Kingdom, Division/Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species.
Besides the obligate categories, there are sub-categories and super-categories too such as Sub-kingdom, Super-phylum or super-division, Sub-division, Super-class, sub-class, Super-order, Super-family, Tribe, sub-species, variety, etc.
