Dispersion by a Prism: If a prism is placed in a room and a narrow beam of white light is allowed to fall on one of its refracting faces, it is found that light coming out from the other face of the prism is split in to seven colors i.e violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. This phenomenon is called dispersion at light. The phenomenon of splitting of white light into its seven constituent colors is called dispersion of light.

I think the question should be visible colors. As far as I know prism splits sunlight into 7 colors in which 6 are visible
Which colour is not visible ??
white light is separated into its component colors – red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet.
this sequence of component colors is VIBGYOR.(Violet, indigo,Blue,Green,Yellow,Orange,REd)
thank you Zainab B.B
correct answer should be 7 clours.
white light is separated into its component colors – red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet.
indigo is the seventh one that is not seen by the human eye.
But the question doesn’t show any clue of visibility rather showing the components of color and that is 7 colors i think.
Correct ans is 7
6 is the correct answer.
indigo is not visible by human eyes but it is included in the phenomenon of dispersion of white light.so we can say that dispersion of white light through prism consist of 7 colours.
This question is always misinterpreted in examinations and is always marked false as the statement itself is not clear as what to ask and what to answer.. As both the answers are right in candidate’s point of view.
